Effectiveness of the Multi-Approaches Counseling Program for Developing the Moral Intelligence of Juvenile Delinquents By Dr. Hajar Said Mousa Mohamed Ministry of Education - Arab Republic of Egypt The juvenile delinquency is a social phenomenon emerged in societies. The social view of this problem is different as the juvenile delinquent in ancient societies was considered a criminal act liable for punishment. Recently, the social view of the juvenile delinquent has varied, as it turns out that juvenile delinquents are victims of social circumstances led them to deviation. Therefore, social conditions should be relevant to the proper and sound upbringing of such juveniles and to make them better citizens. Therefore, the only way to solve this major problem is to improve the good morals. Talking about morality is necessary and important at this time when society is experiencing a major moral crisis. We should not oversight the importance of ethical standards, but we must do our utmost to get society back on track of good manners. The poet Ahmed Shawki said: People are but a display of their manners. If their manners are lost, then so are they. Therefore, the term " moral intelligence" emerged as a lifeline for young people against the poisonous external influences. This term aims to apply the moral convictions of the individual so that he can act ethically in line with the prevailing values in society. Moreover, we find that an increasing number of children are lacking some moral aspects, because they haven't acquired this concept. These children with weak conscious, lacking control over their life, deficient moral sensitivity and unguided beliefs are regarded as morally handicapped. Therefore, the present research aims to inspect the effectiveness of multi-approaches counseling program for developing the moral intelligence of juvenile delinquents. In other words, this research addresses the following questions: 1- Are there statistically significant differences between the average grade scores of the empirical group and the control group in the post measurement for the components of moral intelligence? 2- Are there statistically significant differences between the average grade scores of empirical group in the prior and post measurements for the components of moral intelligence? 3- Are there statistically significant differences between the average grade scores of empirical group in the post and consecutive measurements for the components of moral intelligence? The importance of the study: - The theoretical importance: - 1- To study a group of people having serious impact on society. Such seriousness lies in its impact on manpower in society. 2- To verify the effectiveness of the counseling program in developing the moral intelligence of juvenile delinquents. Applied importance: - 1- The study contributes to the treatment of some widespread ethical diseases in our society now. 2- The study helps educators identifying the nature of moral development of juvenile delinquent. 3- The counseling program contributes to improve the moral intelligence of juvenile delinquents. Study Objectives:- 1- To study the moral intelligence for a sample of juvenile delinquents. 2- To identify the effectiveness of the counseling program, subject of study, in the development of moral intelligence of juvenile delinquents. 3- To identify the relative effectiveness of some counseling approaches used in field of moral education for the development of moral intelligence for a sample of juvenile delinquents. . The researcher assumed the following hypotheses: 1- There are statistically significant differences between the average grade scores of the empirical group and the control group in the post measurement for the components of moral intelligence in favor of the empirical group. 2- There are statistically significant differences between the average grade of scores of empirical group in the prior and post measurements for the components of moral intelligence in favor of the post measurement. 3- There are extinct statistical significant differences between the average grade scores of the empirical group in the post and consecutive measurements for the components of the moral intelligence. Research terms: Multi-Approaches Counseling Program: A planned and organized academic program to provide a range of counseling servicesـــــــ directly or indirectly and individually or collectively. They are provided by the psychological counselor to an individual who has a problem in order to relieve him of the negative effects and to live in harmony with himself and others. . Moral Intelligence: It is a method that enables an individual to determine the right and wrong through pursuing the inner voice of decisions that serve not only the individual but the others else. Juvenile Delinquent: - Juvenile delinquent is a young person who has not learned appropriate social and moral skills or who has not learned to express his or her own rights and feelings towards others in a socially and ethically acceptable manner. . The Applied Approach: This research adopts a semi-empirical approach based on the existence of two groupsـــــــ empirical and control. Such approach is adopted by the researcher according to the method of prior and post measurements to examine the impact of the independent variable (the counseling program) on the dependent variable (development of the moral intelligence among the juvenile delinquents). Note that there are intermediate variables which are age, mental intelligence, social and economic levels and the level of moral intelligence. The study sample : The study consisted of juvenile delinquents sentenced in the Young Delinquents Institution in Ismailia. 16 young delinquents were selected as target sample. Their ages range between (15-18), their levels of intelligence range between (87-90) and their socioeconomic level ranges between (40-47) according to the form of the socio-economic level for the Egyptian family. And the level of moral intelligence ranges between (108 - 118) on the scale of moral intelligence. This sample was divided into two groups: an empirical group with a number of (8) young delinquents, and control group with a number of (8) young delinquents. The sample was selected from males. The researcher adopted the following tools: 1- Moral Intelligence Scale (Prepared by the Researcher) 2- Multi-Approaches Counseling Program (Prepared by the Researcher). Research Findings: - There are statistically significant differences between the average grade scores of the empirical group and the control group in the post measurement for the moral intelligence scale in favor of the empirical group. - There are statistically significant differences between the average grade of scores of empirical group in the prior and post measurements for the components of moral intelligence in favor of the post measurement. - There are extinct significant differences between the average grade scores of the empirical group in the post and consecutive measurements for the components of the moral intelligence.
