This book discusses the elements and dimensions of community policing. It defines community policing and discusses its history and reasons for its use in combating crime. In doing this, it defines the roles and responsibilities of the police force and identifies various problems they face that make community policing an effective strategy in fighting and preventing crime. In doing so, it also discusses the nature of the relationship between the police and the general public, and the responsibility of the general public in combating crime; it also details the role of community policing and the necessary skills needed by those involved. It presents an examination and evaluation of the effectiveness of the role of community policing in fighting and preventing crime, and provides various suggestions based on the author’s observations.
