لقد شهدت المنطقة العربية آلامًا وجراحات بفعل الأحداث، ومن خلال انتشار ثقافة الموت والقتل، التي تزيد من تصاعد العنف والعدوان وانتشار التعصب والكراهية داخل المجتمع الواحد. إن رجل الأمن هو الذي يعمل من أجل بسط النظام، وهو الذي يواجه المجرمين والمنحرفين ومروِّجي المخدرات والعصابات المنظمة، والذين يقومون بارتكاب جرائم الإرهاب؛ لذا فقد يتعرض لبعض الاضطرابات النفسية في أثناء تأدية مهامه المهنية. إن مشكلة الاضطرابات التالية للصدمات جديرة بالبحث؛ حيث أكدتها دراسات كثيرة في ميدان العمل الشرطي، إضافة إلى تعرُّض رجل الشرطة لضغوط العمل؛ حيث أشارت دراسات كثيرة إلى تأثير مثل هذه الضغوط على أداء رجل الشرطة وصحته النفسية. ويُعد الأمن النفسي من المفاهيم الأساسية في ميدان علم النفس، وهو يُعبِّر عن حاجة من الحاجات الأساسية التي إذا ما أُشبعت جعلت الشرطي في توافق مهني ونفسي واجتماعي، وإذا لم تُشبَع جعلته في حاجة إلى الشعور بالأمن الداخلي وتجنُّب المخاطر والشفاء من المرض والاسترخاء وانعدام الشعور بالألم أو الخوف. وتواجه رجل الشرطة والأمن في بعض الدول العربية تحديات كبيرة تتعدد وتتداخل أسبابها، أدت إلى عدم الاستقرار نتيجة الأحداث الجارية في هذه الدول، كما هو الحال في مصر وليبيا وسوريا والعراق والسودان واليمن.

The present book discusses the impacts of Security incidents that the Arab region is passing through on the psychology of security man and his performance. During the first decade of this century, Arab region experienced several security incidents. Such incidents are still encountered both by the security man and fellownationals. The relative impacts of such incidents are various from one country to another. Some countries have experienced major security incidents affecting their political, economic, social and psychological situations. Some other countries have experienced relatively smaller security incidents. The present book exposes nature of the work carried out by the security man and the incidents he faces. Such incidents are relatively affecting the psychology of security man based on his psychological and personality characteristics. Also, this book provides statistical data on the psychological problems they face in the workplace and beyond, depending on number of studies availabe in this field. In addition, it expounds the multiple tasks of police institutions to achieve security in its comprehensive concept. Moreover, it highlights the positive or negative relationship between the security man and fellow-nationals. This relationship is based on mutual trust. This book includes five chapters. Details follow: First chapter comprises an Introduction. In addition, it presents other issues - the research problem; research objectives; research questions; research hypotheses; research significance; limits of the research; research methodology; the main concepts and terms included in the research; and previous pertinent studies. Second chapter shows the security incidents in Arab countries. It stresses on the need for further security cooperation among Arab countries. Arab countries have to get together in a team effort to serve the Arab security strategy. Also, it shows the security incidents that exposes security men to occupational hazards while performing their jobs. In addition, it demonstrates to the positive or negative relationship between security man and fellow-national. Third chapter expounds the psychology of security man. Details are as under: • Psychological solidarity of the security man; and. • Post emotional and psychological stresses. Fourth chapter exposes the work pressures and performance of security man. Details are in order: - The concept of work pressure; - Theories of work pressure; - Ways to withstand the pressure; - Psychological and social support to the security man; and - Psychological security and the performance of the policeman. Fifth chapter comprises the conclusion, findings and recommendations. Most important findings are as follow: • The existent security incidents are the main problems experienced by the Arab region at all levels. Such incidents represent a threat to the stability and security of Arab region. Moreover, these incidents pose a threat to the territorial integrity of Arab region on the one hand, and the personal characteristics of citizens and policeman on the other hand; • The existent security incidents have affected the security man. He has become target by terrorist organizations. Such incidents are reflected in his psychosomatic health with high blood pressure, rapid heart heating and hardening of the arteries. This represents addition to psychological impact on the personality of security man; • It is necessary to support the security man in resolving such incidents. The latter shall be done through promotion of the his psychological strength. It implies to build in him preventable variables (psychological resistance). The psychological strength assists him to generate in him awareness of events making seem less problematic. In contrast, it increases in him dynamism against psychological and physical disorders. For the psychological resistance indirectly suggests the method of treatment; • Exposure to security incidents affect the psychology of security man. This will cause post-traumatic stress disorder reflecting in extreme fear, panic, feeling helplessness, surrender, evasion, and avoidance to counter such events; • Many of security men fall prey to work pressure because of endless tasks. The latter shall affect their performance, posing a threat to the psychological health. Eventually, they shall become less motivated to work, feeling psychological exhaustion; and • A number of methods exist that assit to counter pressures as the magical solutions for restoring the individual equanimity. These refer to a set of dynamic activities or strategies behavioral or cognitive. Such activities assist the security men to withstand the stressful situations, solve problems or ease tensions. Most important recommendations are as follow: • The health and social care for workers in the security institutions should be promoted. This will enable them to render their perfomance efficiently and effectively; • Attention should be given to the psychological care to ensure the psychological stability of security man. Centers of psychotherapy for treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder, in particular, and the professional pressures, in general should be established; • Psychological, behavioral and cognitive programs by specialists should be prepared. Such programs shall be applied in withstanding the pressure of occupational work for security man; and • The Arab security and police coordination should be increased for countering the security incidents. There should be an exchange of experiences and information among Arab countries to counter the terrorist organizations and organized crime.
