Working Paper

In traumatic deaths, autopsy is considered the reference standard for postmortem evaluation. It can explain the cause of death, the number of injuries sustained, and the trauma mechanism. However, autopsies are destructive and time consuming. Therefore, an urgent need for other alternative investigations has been raised. By the recent advancement in the radiological techniques, the cross sectional imaging methods have gained recognition and applications in forensic medicine. PMCT and PMCTA were used for documentation of both internal and external body injuries in selected cases, beside the conventional autopsy. Being noninvasive and objective, these techniques were proposed to be used as an alternative for conventional autopsy.
